....about
the Website Policy
Because the district’s web site -- www.bville.org -- has expanded greatly and will continue to expand, the Baldwinsville Board of Education will continue the policy for the 2007-2008 school year regarding student names and photographs on the site. As a result of the policy, parents or guardians who do NOT wish to have their child’s full name and/or photograph on the district web site must notify the district of their wishes. Please note: This must be done every year. Requests to withold any information and/or photos will NOT carry over to the next year. If you sent a request last year and still do not want your child's photo or name on the website, you must submit another letter for the 2007/2008 school year. To notify the district, please send an e-mail to the District Web Master, Patricia McKenna, at pmckenna@bville.org or send a request in writing to: Patricia McKenna, District Office, 29 E. Oneida St., Baldwinsville, NY 13027. The Board of Education’s decision to adopt a new web site policy was based on the recommendation of a large, representative committee that met for nearly a year to examine communication issues, including the district web site. Teachers, administrators, parents, Board of Education members and other interested parties participated. Teachers and other staff in the district have been trained to develop individual web sites as a means of enhancing their classroom instruction. Student names and photographs could be posted on these sites unless parents or guardians inform the district of their desire NOT to have this information on the site. It should be noted that student names and photographs will not automatically be posted on the district web site, including the individual classroom sites. The teacher-created sites, for example, are meant to highlight classroom projects, lessons and events. The district newsletter, The Beecon, will also continue to be posted on the web site. Parents of elementary-age children who have already filled out a permission form regarding media coverage do not need to contact the district again. More information about this policy and other technology-related matters will be posted on the district web site. 8/2007 |
