Why should your child read in the summer?

Reading can be one of the many fun activities children fill their summer time with. Research has shown it to be so much more! Children who participate in summer reading programs not only avoid the “summer slide” in learning, but also score higher on reading achievement tests than those who do not participate. Students who find a love for reading early in age succeed in reading later in life. Research shows that if your child reads at least 5 books they will most likely avoid the summer slide.

Below you will find many ways to encourage your child to read.

BALDWINSVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY
SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2017:
BUILD A BETTER WORLD

Kids aged 3 years – going into 5th grade can register for the Summer Reading Program starting Monday, June 26th. The program lasts 6 weeks, and includes movies, craft programs, special programs and prizes.
You can join at anytime!
The Baldwinsville Public Library is located at 33 East Genesee Street in the heart of Baldwinsville.

The Baldwinsville School District has made it easy for all students from pre-k through high school to read this summer through a free program called myOn.

OCM BOCES School Library System is participating in the myOn digital library, which gives students access to thousands of books that can be read on computers, laptops and other devices. You can read anywhere, anytime on any device! You can also download books onto your device for times when you have no internet access. Kids can read the books or have the books read to them on their reading level.  Many great books to choose from!

All Elden students left for the summer with a username and password for their log on and will have already have taken a short quiz to determine their reading level. myON will store that information to recommend books based on their level of reading. myON can be accessed online or you may download the app on your home device.

Click here for access to myOn.
