9/2012-Presentation on Parent-Teacher Communication

On July 1st, New York State enacted the Concussion Management and Awareness Act.   The Commissioner of Education worked with the Commissioner of Health to produce guidelines for school districts to follow in protecting the health and well being of concussed students.  The Baldwinsville Central School District has already developed, and has implemented, most of the guidelines. Our district’s concussion procedures have been used as a model within New York State.
The law specifies that coaches, athletic trainers, physical education teachers and school nurses receive state approved biennial education regarding concussion awareness and management. The district thinks it is important that parents have access to these same videos, as well as to additional evidence based research regarding concussion management. Below are three solid resources to obtain additional information about the Concussion Management and Awareness Act and to obtain concussion literature.
