Baker Student Selected for Puerto Rican/Hispanic Leadership Institute

Iham Rodriguez, a junior at Baker High School, has been selected as a participant in the 2018 Angelo Del Toro Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute (PR/HYLI) – Syracuse/CNY Delegation. Selection as a participant is an indication of a student’s leadership potential and future achievement. Rodriguez is the first student from Baker High School to be selected for the Syracuse/CNY Delegation.
A key element of the Leadership Institute is the promotion and development of communication, leadership, and public speaking skills in Hispanic/Latino students across New York State. Participants from the Syracuse/CNY Delegation will learn public policy and the legislative process in six days of training. Training will focus on identification and research of local issues, study of the NYS legislative process, parliamentary procedure and selected bills. Upon completion of training, 20 students from the CNY Delegation will be selected to represent the area at the three-day institute in Albany in March.
