Curriculum Development Overview

Participants will learn what really works in schools to improve student learning – the teacher.  They learn that history of education in the United States has started with an oath and commitment to each child and citizen.  Over the years, the process for developing curriculum has evolved and often emphasized that teachers needed to work harder to get better students results.  Today’s research supports school reform but also supports the idea that the individual teacher makes the difference.  Teachers with “The Big Four” make great strides with students.

Teachers who:

  • Use learning targets,  carefully developed in the curriculum process
  • Use instructional strategies that work to help the learner remember and apply information and skills, not just do schoolwork
  • Use varied assessment strategies to provide important performance feedback to help the learner improve
  • Use performance data for continuous feedback to gain individual student improvement “beyond the curve”  and program development

Participants will learn about the curriculum process and how to become involved.
