Important Media Release Message from Bville schools

Update on 12/20/19

The Baldwinsville Central School District has received an update on the investigation into complaints that a Ray Middle School teacher sent a homework assignment to students that contained a link to pornography.

The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office has determined that no criminal activity took place and there will be no charges filed.

The teacher, using Google Documents, sent students links to websites for the purpose of a homework assignment. It was determined that one of those links was to a website that was no longer functional as an educational link and contained pornography.

The incident remains under investigation by the Baldwinsville Central School District to ensure that all procedures and protocols were followed.

The teacher remains on leave from his position. However, because this is a confidential personnel matter, the District will have no additional comment.

“The district is reviewing all of its internet protocols and safety measures to ensure that our students remain safe,” said Superintendent Matthew McDonald.

12/12/19:

The Baldwinsville Central School District has received complaints that a teacher in the District sent website links to students for the purpose of homework, and one of the links contained a link to pornography.

“The District takes such allegations very seriously,” Superintendent Matthew McDonald said.

Based upon the nature of the complaint, the District has fulfilled, and will continue to observe, all applicable reporting requirements. A report has been filed with the New York State Education Department and local law enforcement.

“We are cooperating with law enforcement and will cooperate with any other agencies that may become involved with this matter,” McDonald said.

The teacher is currently on leave from his position. However, because this is a confidential personnel matter, the District will have no additional comment.

Although the nature of the allegations is serious, it has yet to be determined whether the alleged actions are criminal in nature.  It is important to keep in mind that the teacher, like all citizens, is presumed innocent of any criminal or employee disciplinary offense at the outset of an investigation.

“We intend to take all steps necessary to respect the teacher’s rights, while, at the same time, taking all required and prudent steps to ensure the welfare and safety of our students,” McDonald said.

Please be advised that the District will have counselors available to all students.
