Message from Van Buren Elementary principal

Dear Van Buren School Community:

It is with great sadness that I write to share the passing of Van Buren 2nd grade student, Zoey Smith.   The thoughts and prayers of the entire Van Buren school community are with Zoey's family and friends.  

Death can be difficult for us to understand, especially when it is sudden.  The Van Buren Crisis Response Team will provide support and counseling to students, staff and families in the Van Buren school library on Monday, March 16th and throughout the week. The emotional well-being of our students is of the utmost importance.  After communicating this difficult news to your child, if you feel that they need additional support, our counselors will be available to provide you with resources and strategies. 

While this news is painful and difficult for us to understand, especially when it involves a student, it is important for our school community to support one another.  If we can help in any way, please contact the school at 315-638-6121.
