Course Scheduling for Durgee 8th Graders

December 12, 2022

Dear Parent/Guardian:,

At this time in the academic calendar, our eighth grade students will begin the process of course selections for the 2023-24 school year.
We will hold a Parent Information Night on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 6:00pm in the Baker Auditorium. The presentation will review
current high school graduation requirements and the 2023-24 course catalog. The presentation will also be posted on the Durgee
Counseling webpage. Please review this information with your student. (Snow date will be Thursday, December 22, 2022).
School Counselors will start high school planning meetings with eighth grade students on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. Each meeting
is approximately thirty minutes.

In 9th grade, students are required to take the following core courses: English (Regents or Honors),
Creating Legends (Creating Legends meets the 9th grade English requirement. Please refer to the course catalog for more information.)
Global History (Regents or Pre-AP World History), Math (Algebra I or Geometry), Science with a lab (Living Environment or Earth
Science), and Physical Education. For students who are working towards an Advanced Regents Diploma, we strongly recommend they
continue in their World Language course. In 9th grade, students take 6 1⁄2 to 7 1⁄2 credits. Each full year course is one credit and each
half-year course is a half credit. Depending on the student’s schedule, they will need to select one or two of the following electives:
