Board of Education appoints next principal of Durgee Junior High School
The Baldwinsville Central School District is pleased to announce that the Board of Education has appointed John Courain as principal of Durgee Junior High School, effective July 1, 2026.
Current Principal T.J. Fraher announced his retirement earlier this year. Following a comprehensive interview process last month, the district is proud to promote Mr. Courain from his role as assistant principal, a position he has held since September 2021.
Mr. Courain previously served as acting principal at Durgee, where he demonstrated outstanding leadership, a strong commitment to students and staff, and the ability to foster a positive and supportive school culture. His experience, dedication and familiarity with the Durgee community make him exceptionally well-suited for this position.
“We look forward to all that he will bring in the principal role,” said Superintendent Dr. Joseph M. DeBarbieri at Monday’s Board of Education meeting.
Interview committees, which included staff and parents, played an important role in the selection process for this key leadership position.
Please join us in congratulating Mr. Courain on this well-deserved appointment. We look forward to his continued leadership and the positive impact he will have on the Durgee school community.
