The Board of Education honored New York State Senator John DeFrancisco for his dedication and commitment to public education, particularly for his efforts to ensure that the students of the Baldwinsville Central School District have the resources they need for a high quality, well-rounded education. The district held a reception for the Senator before the meeting.

Senator DeFrancisco was elected to the Senate in 1992 and served the 50th District, of which the Baldwinsville school district is part. Senator DeFrancisco knows first-hand the hurdles schools encounter as they strive to provide a quality education to their students. Prior to being elected a senator, he held the position of President of the Syracuse City School District Board of Education and Vice President of the Conference of Large City Boards of Education.

Over the years of his tenure, Senator DeFrancisco was able to secure legislative grants for the district to use to purchase resources for its programs and classrooms, such as musical instruments, SMART Boards, and graphing calculators. Most recently, Senator DeFrancisco secured a $55,000 legislative grant for the district to use toward the cost of a new playground at Reynolds Elementary School. In October, he helped the school cut the ribbon and officially open the playground.

The board presented Senator DeFrancisco with a gift of two Adirondack chairs created especially for him by technology students at Baker High School.

The following students built the gift under the guidance of technology teacher Jamie Cuyler:
