BaldwinsvilleCentral School District to Hold Long Range Plan Forums

The Baldwinsville Central School District endeavors to prepare its students for jobs, opportunities and technologies that do not yet exist, in order that they may help solve problems that have not yet arisen. In order to prepare them for life, learning and leadership, schools must equip students with the capacity to acquire new skills and new knowledge throughout their lives. The insights of students and parents, as well as educational, business and professional communities will be valuable resources for the district as we educate a new generation of citizens.

The district is beginning the process of updating the academic component of its Long Range Plan. In February, we will hold three forums to draw upon the collective wisdom of our community and its many resources. These forums will be opportunities for community members to comment upon and offer insight as it pertains to the educational needs of Baldwinsville’s students. The meetings will be held on Wednesday, February 3rd, 10th, and 24th, in the cafeteria of C.W. Baker High School, from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Community members are invited to attend any of the three forums. If you are able to attend, please RSVP to Kelly Cary at kcary@bville.org or 315-638-6180. Please provide her with the date you will be attending.

Internet Safety Presentation

On January 26, the district held an internet safety presentation to provide community members with information on how children are vulnerable on the internet and their cell phones, as well as what we can do to keep them safe. The presenter, Detective Shanna Martin of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department, also discussed sexting, which is the act of sending sexually explicit messages or photos electronically, primarily between cell phones. Possessing or disseminating this material can be a felony, leading to prosecution.

The district’s school resource officers, Martin Knaul and Christine Weeks, are available to answer any questions or concerns you may have about these topics. You can reach Officer Knaul at mknaul@bville.org and 638-5610, and you can reach Officer Weeks at cweeks@bville.org and 638-6086. If you’d like to speak with Detective Martin, contact her at 435-2351, or smartin@ongov.net. She recommends visiting the following websites for information on internet safety: www.netsmartz.org, www.connectsafely.org, and www.netling.com/acronyms.php
