'Back to the Future' actress helps raise money for marching band's trip to Rose Parade

Fans drove from as far away as Buffalo to meet “Back to the Future” actress Claudia Wells Tuesday evening at C.W. Baker High School.

But it was Wells that was starstruck.

“I have chills,” Wells said about listening to the Baldwinsville Band perform during the fundraising event, “An Evening with Claudia Wells.”

The event was held to raise money for the Baldwinsville Bees Marching Band’s trip to Pasadena, Calif. The band will perform at the Rose Parade in Pasadena, Calif., on Jan. 1, 2020.

From rolling a screen-used DeLorean onto the field to dressing up in 80’s fashion, the Marching Bee’s 2019 field band show, “Stranger 1985,” incorporated the spirit and music of “Back to the Future.”

Wells wanted to help the band raise the money to travel to the Rose Parade. She donated her time and traveled to Syracuse for the unique evening of storytelling, conversation and fun.

Wells took photos with fans during an exclusive meet and greet, and answered questions from the audience during the program.

The “Back to the Future” actress played Marty McFly’s girlfriend Jennifer Parker in the 1985 movie. During the Q&A, an audience member asked her what it was like to kiss Michael J. Fox.

“It was lovely,” Wells replied with a laugh.

The evening also featured a performance by the Baldwinsville Band.

Wells told the audience that she was also a “Band Mom” and that her son played a saxophone in his marching band.

She said she was impressed by the talent from the young Baldwinsville musicians.

“This is like the Philharmonic,” Wells said.

“You guys are amazing,” she added.

Band Director Casey Vanderstouw said he was very thankful for Wells’ generosity.

“It was great,” he said. “The students loved meeting her and we really appreciate her help.”

The marching band is still looking to raise money to cover travel expenses to California.

Baldwinsville is the first New York State band selected for the Rose Parade in more than 20 years. Only 15 high school bands from around the country are invited to participate in the parade each year
