Board of Education Spotlight: Reynolds teacher honored for use of technology in her classroom

Lisa Seeley at Monday's Board of Education meeting.
The Baldwinsville Central School District Board of Education honored Lisa Seeley, a first grade teacher at Reynolds Elementary School, for embracing technology and using it to foster learning in her classroom.

Seeley has integrated physical hardware and digital applications to transform learning in her classroom. One piece of technology Lisa uses is the Garmin VIRB 360 camera, which records students working together during “collaboration station” math exercises.

The collaboration station features a table comprised of about five students, who work as partners (or as a group) to solve various math problems. Throughout this process, students use math and communication to work through the task with their peers. Students will explain why they solved a problem the way they did, use accountable talk stems, and use language to solidify understanding. Students are getting the opportunity to see that the same problem can be solved in various ways, and they’re calling upon multiple skills in order to arrive at an answer.

Seeley was named the “Featured Teacher” of of the month in December 2019 by the Central New York Regional Information Center for her use of technology in the classroom.
