It is hard to believe that we are halfway through the school year at the end of this week. It seems like it was only yesterday that students were walking in for the first day of school.
If you happen to be talking to your Reynolds student and they mention that they were reading to a canine in class, know that Reynolds isn’t going to the dogs. I am pleased to share that we have developed an outstanding relationship with the four-legged community through PAWS of CNY here at Reynolds Elementary. Volunteers bring in highly trained dogs 1-2 times per week to visit classrooms and we have had nothing but positive feedback. If you know me, you know I love animals and have enjoyed this relationship immensely.
Earlier this month I attended our January PTA meeting and was more than pleased with the turnout; it was the best attended meeting since I have become principal of the building. If you are interested, the PTA meeting is the third Tuesday of every month. For those of you who attended our annual Winterfest, this is an example of one of our many PTA events. PARP (Pick A Reading Partner) is also coordinated by PTA, and is in full swing. Please take the time to read with your student and refer to the calendar that was sent home.
The PTA is a great opportunity to catch up on current events in the building and have an opportunity to participate and volunteer. I’m also pleased to share that we have 100% membership from Reynolds staff this year as well.
While the Buffalo Bills didn’t make it to the Super Bowl this year, students had the opportunity to hear Downbeat Percussion last week, the official drumline for the Bills. While displaying their talent, the group also highlighted the character trait of optimism.
Connecting performances, messages in the building and classroom activities to different character strengths is a cornerstone of the Positivity Project. Be sure to go to the Reynolds Positivity Project page of the district’s website to learn more about what your student is doing. It’s great stuff!
