Baker High School to host 2nd annual Culture Festival on Thursday

Aidan Priest, a senior at C.W. Baker High School, wants the Baldwinsville Central School District to express and embrace its diversity.

“We may not look diverse, but we are culturally diverse,” Aidan said.

Last year, Aidan organized the inaugural Culture Festival to shine a spotlight on the various cultures represented in the BCSD community. Aidan was inspired by taking part in InterFaith Works of CNY’s “Community Wide Dialogue to End Racism” between Baker and Corcoran high school students. Corcoran hosts a culture festival and Aidan thought it would be a great way to showcase Baldwinsville’s diversity.

The 2nd annual Culture Festival will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 27 at Baker High School, 29 E. Oneida St., in Baldwinsville. The festival is free and open to the public.

There will be more than 30 tables featuring different cultures. Each table is presented by a student or staff member in the district. There will also be performances, including an African drum group and Irish dancers.

Many of the tables will have clothing, music, food samples, art and more.

Aidan said his goal is for guests to leave saying: “Wow, I didn’t know we had so much culture.”
