Final instructional day announced

May 29, 2020

Dear Parents & Guardians,
Happy Friday!

I write today to share news regarding our anticipated end of the 2019-2020 academic school year.  Based on the Governor's Executive Orders and through discussion with legal counsel and current guidance from the New York State Department of Education, the district has modified the 2019-2020 school calendar to reflect Continuity of Instruction (resulting in additional days of instruction) which occurred over our scheduled April Break.

It is anticipated our final instructional day this academic year for students in grades K-12 will be Friday, June 12, 2020.  The final day for 10-month instructional and non-instructional staff members will be Tuesday, June 16, 2020.  Final grades and report cards will be released in the Parent Portal on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.  While I am certain this is news that everyone has been awaiting, please understand this information is subject to change based on additional guidance from the New York State Education Department and/or new or modified Executive Orders from the Governor’s Office.  Please know that last evening’s adjustments by the Governor, regarding Phase 2 reopenings, is indication that anything is possible and some things may be out of our control.  Regardless, the dates listed above should help to provide motivation for our students and staff to finish strong rather than quit now -- The end of our academic year is in full sight!

I would also like to share with you that Superintendent Matthew McDonald is expected to return from his medical leave of absence on Monday, June 1, 2020.  I would personally like to take a moment to thank all of you, the Board of Education, our teachers and staff for supporting me, as well as our district’s efforts while serving as the Acting Superintendent.  Together, we have been able to overcome many obstacles while remaining focused on what has been most important to the success of our students and community – health, safety, and continued learning!

Again, thank you for supporting us during these unique times.

Please take care and be well!

Sincerely,

Joseph M. DeBarbieri
Acting Superintendent of Schools
