COVID-19 cases in our District for November 9, 2020

November 9, 2020

Dear Parents & Guardians,

The Onondaga County Health Department has confirmed we have two new cases of COVID-19 in our District. District officials in conjunction with the county Health Department immediately began investigations into each case, which are ongoing.

A student at C.W. Baker High School has tested positive for the virus. The student, a member of our BUZZ cohort, was last in attendance on Wednesday, November 4 and is now in isolation.  Contact tracing by the Onondaga County Health Department has determined that 18 students and no staff members will need to quarantine at this time. The quarantine is expected to end on November 18, with a return to school on November 19 as scheduled for the BUZZ cohort.

The second case involves a 100% remote learner who attends Ray Middle School. Since the student is a remote learner and was not in attendance at the school this school year, there is no need for students or staff to quarantine based on school exposure. The remote learner is in isolation.

We can’t provide any additional information about these students due to confidentiality and privacy constraints. As local health experts have said, this virus is not spreading within schools due to our mask requirements, social distancing protocols, and cleaning and disinfecting procedures. However, Onondaga County continues to face its highest numbers of positive cases. It is important that we all continue to take precautions to protect ourselves and each other from COVID-19. Please remember to wear a mask in public and practice social distancing. Each person in our community must do their part to keep everyone safe.

We appreciate your support and understanding when we have a new positive COVID-19 case involving students or staff in any of our buildings.  If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.

Sincerely,

Matthew J. McDonald
Superintendent of Schools
