Attention families: Please take survey regarding COVID-19 testing

November 9, 2020

Dear parents and guardians,

We have created a brief survey to gain feedback from our families regarding COVID-19 testing by Onondaga County while our zip code remains in a microcluster zone.

During this time, we are required to test 20 percent of our in-person school population of students and staff members each week in order to remain open for in-person instruction. This means we will need to test roughly 1,000 people each week in order to comply with the requirements. We have been told that the test kits Onondaga County has available at this time are non-invasive nasal swab rapid tests that produce results in 15 minutes and would be offered free of charge to the District and families. Permission from parents and guardians is required in order for a child to be tested.

To determine if it is feasible to meet our requirements, we have set up a two-question survey in your SchoolTool Parent Portal. This survey will not prevent a family from changing their mind, it is a tool to help our District and the county determine the feasibility of testing in schools.

The survey will ask the following yes or no questions:
  • If Onondaga County is able to provide testing for COVID-19 in your child’s school would you consent for your child to participate?
  • Would you prefer to make an appointment with your medical provider or an Onondaga County testing center and bring your child to be tested outside of school?
Please login to your SchoolTool Parent Portal account to take the survey, and please be sure to answer the survey questions for each of your children. Instructions for completing the survey can be found HERE. The survey will close on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.

We will update you as soon as we know more about testing or the possibility of temporarily transitioning to remote learning for all students. Please check your emails and our website for updates.

We appreciate your support and understanding on this matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.

Sincerely,

Matthew J. McDonald
Superintendent of Schools
