Durgee's Q&A for Back to School

Durgee Families,

We are excited to begin the 2021-2022 school year and welcome back the classes of 2025 & 2026 back into the building on Wednesday, September 8th! As we welcome back past staff members and new ones we are excited to see another year of their  amazing commitment and dedication to our students. Our custodial staff has worked tirelessly to have the building up and ready for the start of school.

As always, keeping our staff and students healthy and safe will continue to be a top priority as we begin another school year. The past year presented us with unimaginable challenges and incredible opportunities for change.  Among the many changes, one constant has remained strong.  That constant is our commitment to providing a learning environment where all students feel welcomed, supported and find their own personal success. We look forward to celebrating these successes throughout the year with our children!

Below we have tried to answer some of the questions you may have in regards to this school year:

Important Dates/Contact Information

The following are some important dates and contact information that you will need to have for this school year Contact Information-Dates.pdf

Face Coverings

Face coverings are required at all times while students are on district transportation and when entering Durgee JHS.

  • All face coverings need to cover both mouth and nose.

  • Face coverings must remain appropriate and adhere to the District’s Code of Conduct

  • Gaiter style and bandana face coverings have been banned from Baldwinsville CSD

Health Screening

For the 2021-2022 school year, the district will not require a daily health and temperature screening for entry in our school building. However, the District strongly encourages that daily screenings and temperature checks take place at home prior to attending school or a school event.

Student Illness

It is inevitable that at some point your children will experience illness. We are in a similar place as last spring where we ask that you please keep your child home if they are sick. If their symptoms are any of the ones associated with COVID 19 you will need a negative test for them to return. We would also ask that you are mindful of sickness in the household especially those with which your child has close contact. If you have any questions regarding scenarios that arise, please know our school nurses are here to assist. Feel free to email or call them and they can help you sort through the best course of action.

Student Drop Off/Pick Up

The traffic pattern for parent drop off Drop off.pdf  and pick up Pick up.pdf  will remain the same as last year   We ask that you please enter campus using Albert Palmer Ln. and it is important for the safety of everyone these traffic patterns are followed.

Backpacks

We would like to limit the number of times a student needs to stop at their locker during the day.  To help with this we are allowing students to carry backpacks.

Student Arrival

Students who arrive at school between 7:00-7:25 a.m. are expected to report to the cafeteria.  Students who ride the school bus will be released from the bus at 7:25 and should report directly to their 1st period class unless they are purchasing breakfast.

Food Service

Both breakfast and lunch will continue to be FREE for all students again this school year.

Breakfast

Breakfast will be available for all students beginning at 7:15 a.m. in the cafeteria.

Lunches

This year students will eat lunch in the cafeteria and gymnasium.  All of the seats in both areas will have a QR code that the student will need to scan using their phone or chromebook. This will allow us to track where each student sits.   This will assist us in contact tracing in the event a student tests positive for COVID-19.

Sports Study Hall

There will be a sports study hall in the cafeteria following 9th period.  All athletes are expected to attend this study hall until their coach arrives.

Go BEES!!!

Sincerely,
