Fifth-grade student council members organize food and gift drive

Fifth-grade student council members at McNamara Elementary School have started the year strong with helping others in the Baldwinsville community.

To begin the year, students showed kindness by decorating bags and placemats for the Meals on Wheels program. “Helping people is one of the most important things to me,” said fifth-grade student council member, Riley Milczarski.  “I want other people to be happy.”

Currently, the student council’s newest endeavor is participation in the Baldwinsville Volunteer Center Food and Gift Drive to benefit the Christmas Bureau. “This makes me feel like I’m actually doing something and hopefully it makes people on the other side feel like they have someone looking out for them,” said Evan Grady, a fifth-grade student council member.

The student council has invited the school to participate in the food and gift drive to help others in the Baldwinsville Community, and the drive will take place from November 1 to December 10. If the McNamara community would like to participate, the following items are encouraged for donations:

  • Canned and boxed foods

  • Socks, hats, mittens, and gloves

  • New, unwrapped gifts including stocking stuffers

Donations may be dropped off in front of the main office at McNamara Elementary.

Student council members have worked hard to promote the drive, creating posters for display around the school and acting as guest speakers on morning announcements. Members will volunteer their time to collect and organize all donations to send on to the Christmas Bureau.

“It makes me happy because people can get support from us if they don’t have friends or family,” said student council member, Bryce Daley.
