A statement from the BCSD Board of Education

The Baldwinsville Central School District Board of Education recognizes and respects the many diverse opinions in our community. We understand how passionate our community members and district parents are about certain topics and issues impacting our students, and we value the open dialogue that exists between the public and our board. One topic that has sparked discussion here at home — and across the country — is the issue of banning books.

It has been brought to our attention that there is miscommunication and misinformation about book banning in our district and we would like to take this opportunity to clear up some of the confusion. The BCSD Board of Education has not banned any books from our curriculum. We have approved every textbook and other reading materials recommended by the district. Also, our Advance Placement (AP) courses are not in jeopardy due to book banning.

Our school board members support and trust our teachers. We believe our teachers and administrators have the best interest of our students in mind when selecting and recommending books for the curriculum.

As a board we felt it was important to make sure accurate information was released on this important topic. Thank you for your time and support.
