Acting Superintendent's announcements for October 14, 2022

October 14, 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I understand the events at homecoming and continuing news coverage are weighing heavy on the minds of our families and community. I would like to take this opportunity to assure you that our district leadership, teachers and support staff are focused solely on the education, safety and wellbeing of our students. Our Board of Education and law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident and will communicate any updates going forward.

The Board of Education announced on Monday evening that I would serve as your acting superintendent during this time. This is a role that I’ve held in the past and I will continue to dedicate my time and energy to moving our district forward. We ask that you maintain the normal chain of command, and for things that require guidance or input from the Superintendent’s office, please send all communication to Christy Knaul as the secretary to the Acting Superintendent or to myself. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

I have a few announcements to share with you today:

National Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Month and Wednesday, October 19th is Unity Day. Every year, schools across America wear ORANGE to unite against bullying, and promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

This year, Baldwinsville wants to do its part and unify! On Wednesday, October 19th, Baldwinsville will wear orange to unite against bullying.
  • WEAR ORANGE - A few ideas include tees, shoelaces, socks, sunglasses, or wristbands.
  • SHARE ORANGE - Post images to social media with hashtags #UniteEveryDay, #BeeKind and #BvilleUnites
We can't wait to see Baldwinsville unite on Unity Day!

Lunch & Learn

The first installment of our Virtual Lunch & Learn will be held at noon on Thursday, October 20, 2022. Grab your lunch and tune in to learn more about what is happening in the Baldwinsville Central School District. Topics for this meeting will include updates on prek-12 curriculum and instruction, technology and athletics. Visit our website for the Zoom link to join and to learn more.

Calendar reminders

Today was our first Parent-Teacher Conference of the school year. Parent-Teacher Conferences are reduced days for prekindergarten to fifth grade students only. Ray, Durgee and Baker students are not impacted. The conferences will also be held on the following dates:
  • Thursday, October 20, 2022
  • Wednesday, October 26, 2022
  • Monday, October 31, 2022
Principals!

October is National Principals Month and we are so lucky to have the best principals around at each of our schools. Check out our social media pages to see one example of why our principals are the greatest! Van Buren Elementary School students turned Principal Cindy Cronin into a human burrito this morning and the photos are amazing!

Good luck to all the students taking the PSATs tomorrow!

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have and check our website for important updates. Have a great weekend. Go Bees!

Sincerely,

Joseph M. DeBarbieri
Acting Superintendent of Schools
