Acting Superintendent's announcements for December 9, 2022

December 9, 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Our schools are bursting with holiday cheer as holiday concerts are underway, student groups are making holiday greeting cards for various organizations, donation drives have launched and so much more! If you missed any of the school concerts from this week, you can watch them now on our YouTube channel. Great Job, Bees!

I wanted to take the opportunity today to give an update from the New York State Department of Health and our School Nurse Supervisor Katie Cazzolli.

Our community is facing a host of respiratory viruses including: influenza, RSV and COVID-19. In an effort to keep our students and staff safe and healthy, please remember to take the following precautions as recommended by the CDC and the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH):

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Sneeze or cough into your elbow.
  • Stay home when you are sick. If a fever is present, please remain home until fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
  • Stay up to date on vaccines including Flu and COVID-19.

More information from the NYSDOH is linked here on our school health services webpage. At-home COVID-19 test kits continue to be available at all school buildings for your convenience. The FDA provides a list of at-home COVID-19 test kit expiration date extensions here.

Congratulations

Congratulations to our two Esports teams who made it to the Final Four of the PlayVS Fall 2022 (New York State) High School Championship this week. Both teams had an excellent fall season, but faced difficult losses in the Final Four. Good luck in the Spring 2023 season!

Congratulations to our fall 2022 varsity teams who qualified for the NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Team Award. To qualify, 75% of the team’s roster must be 90% or higher. You can see the entire list of athletes by clicking here.

Durgee Junior High School is having its Winter Dance tonight. Have a great time!

Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have and check our website for important updates. Have a great weekend! Go Bees!

Sincerely,

Joseph M. DeBarbieri, Acting Superintendent of Schools
