Announcements for Friday, May 12, 2023

May 12, 2023

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff:

This week we had the opportunity to show our gratitude to our teachers, school nurses and staff members for staff appreciation week. Our PTAs, administrators and families joined in on the celebration by surprising our staff with special treats, thank you cards and much more. Thank you again to our staff for all that you do for our students. Your patience, hard work, compassion and dedication are very appreciated!

In addition, on this weekend we celebrate all mothers, grandmothers and mother figures. We want to take this opportunity to say thank you and Happy Mother’s Day! Your love, support and dedication to your children contribute to their success in school and for that, we are truly grateful.

This week we’ve also continued activities related to Mental Health Awareness Month. We hope you’re following along as we post the Tip of the Day on our social media pages. If you don’t use social media, you can find the tips posted on our website.

I have a few announcements to share with you today:

Public Vote:

Residents are asked to go to the polls on Tuesday, May 16th for the annual budget vote and board of education election. Everything you need to know about our 2023-2024 Budget and Foundation Aid Increase is posted on our website. We created a quick reference guide to help voters find information on the general fund budget, capital project, board of education election and more.

Calendar reminders:

We want to remind our families that pending no additional changes to the school calendar due to emergency closings, Friday, May 26, 2023 will be a No School day for students in grades PK-12. Last week, we released the schedule for the end of the school year. Check out our website for more information.

Culture Festival:

District families, students and staff are invited to the Culture Festival from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16th at C.W. Baker High School. The festival features food, dancing, music and displays.

Halloween costumes:

Our District’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Community Committee is hosting a community Halloween Costume Drive for elementary age or younger students. Gently used, clean costumes can be donated until June 15th. Donation bins are located near the main entrance at our elementary schools. Label the bag with the SIZE and TYPE of costume (eg. Size 5T, Pirate Costume). The DEI Community Committee will host a “Give Yourself a Treat and Come Get a Costume!” event in early October for any family who needs costumes for their elementary age (or younger) students.

Great work:

C.W. Baker High School hosted the New York State School Music Association’s Solo Festival yesterday, which featured 850 students from 16 school districts and their families. Baker’s music teachers and student volunteers did a fantastic job preparing for and hosting the event.
