Meet the Baker's Dozen for the Class of 2023

 


1) Lauren Gascon
Honors:
National Honor Society, AP Scholar with Distinction, NYSSMA All-State Orchestra Alternate, Area All-State Orchestra, National Merit Scholarship Commendation
School activities: Chamber Orchestra, Honors Orchestra, Class Council, Student Council, Student Advisory Council, Environmental Club
Activities outside of school: Symphoria Young Artist Orchestra, Interlochen Philharmonic, New York State Summer School of the Arts, Bees Puck fan
College you plan to attend and major: University of Notre Dame. I plan to study biochemistry.
Career plans: I hope to attend medical school and eventually work as a physician or surgeon. I would also like to explore research, specifically intercellular interactions, and use my medical degree to make improvements in the world of healthcare policy and management.
How has Baldwinsville prepared you for your future: The Baldwinsville school district and community have guided me throughout the formative years of my adolescence to aim high with my achievements. Ambition was always cultivated by teachers, administrators, and peers, both in academics and extracurricular activities. That is not to say that I haven’t had my share of mishaps, but I have been encouraged by so many in my pursuit of success that I find it possible to regain my balance time and time again. The supportive spirit of Baldwinsville is certainly something I will take with me throughout my collegiate experience and beyond. 

2) Evan Kinville 
Honors: National Honor Society, NYSPHSAA Individual Scholar Athlete Award, AP Scholar with Honor
School Activities: Baseball, Student Council, Chess Club, Key Club
Activities outside of school: Baseball training and volunteering
College you plan to attend: Villanova University. I plan on majoring in business analytics alongside either finance or accounting.
Career Plan: I hope to pursue a career that allows me to make use of my analytical skills.
How Baldwinsville has prepared you for your future: I have been very fortunate to be part of the Baldwinsville community for my whole life.  I have learned from so many great teachers, coaches, and peers who have challenged me, supported me, and helped me become the person I am today. I am very grateful for all of the friendships and experiences.
 
3) Aidan DeLaney
Honors: National Honor Society, AP Scholar Award, RIT Computing Medal, NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete
School activities: Varsity Volleyball, Varsity Tennis, Baker News on WBXLTV, FCCLA
Activities outside of school: Kerner & Merchant Pipe Organ Builders, Various Volunteer Activities, Musician
College you plan to attend and major: University of Buffalo; Electrical Engineering & Computer Engineering
Career plans: I plan to become an electrical engineer.
How has Baldwinsville prepared you for your future: Baldwinsville has cultivated my interests in math and science, while encouraging me to pursue things beyond my career interests such as music, volunteerism and sports. My high school experience has encouraged me to explore the world and experience different perspectives.
 
4) Gordon Flood 
Honors: National Honor Society, NYSSMA Conference All-State: Trumpet, NYSSMA Conference All-State: Chorus Alternate, NYSSMA Area All-State, OCMEA All-County, OCMEA All-County Jazz
School activities: Baldwinsville Theater Arts Program, Baker News, Baldwinsville Marching Band, Baldwinsville Pep Band, Baker Jazz Band
Activities outside of school: Symphoria Youth Orchestra, CNY Jazz Summer Workshop
College you plan to attend and major: University at Buffalo. I plan to major in mechanical engineering with a minor in music performance.
Career plans: I hope to find a career in the field of engineering where I can help to solve real-world problems
How has Baldwinsville prepared you for your future: I will soon be going off to college and exploring the wider world, but I will always hold with me my memories from Baldwinsville. I have lived and attended school here my whole life, and those experiences have been instrumental in forming who I am as a person. Specifically through the music programs at Baldwinsville, I have grown emotionally, found incredible friends, and most importantly found a community I will always belong to. 
 
5) Reagan Doan 
Honors: National Honor Society, NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete, Heisman High School Scholarship, Le Moyne College Heights Award, High Honor Roll
School activities: Varsity Tennis, Varsity Golf, Key Club, Senior Council, National Honor Society
Activities outside of school: Volunteer coach at Baldwinsville Bees Golf Camp and Part-Time Assistant Tennis Coach at Elevate Fitness Liverpool
College you plan to attend and major: Boston College; major in marketing
Career plans: I want to either establish my own marketing agency or go to law school to become a business lawyer.
How has Baldwinsville prepared you for your future: Baldwinsville has prepared me for my future by giving me learning opportunities and experiences that have expanded my horizons before college. Baldwinsville has also allowed me to form countless friendships that have pushed me to pursue my dreams and connections with teachers that have helped me accomplish my goals.
 
6) Ryan Quinn
Honors: The Rensselaer Medal, NYSPHAA All-Academic 2019-2023, AP Scholar, Advanced Regents Diploma
School Activities: Varsity Lacrosse, Varsity Cross Country, Chess Club, Honor Society
Activities outside of school: Internship with majorgeeks.com, volunteering for Clary’s Closet, watching younger family members
College you plan to attend and major: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); major in Computer Science and play lacrosse
Career plans: To become a software engineer working in the field of AI and Machine Learning.
How has Baldwinsville prepared you for your future: Baldwinsville has provided me the opportunity to take challenging STEM-related courses that have prepared me for college and beyond.
 
7) Jillian Parker
Honors: National Honors Society, University of Rochester Bausch and Lomb Science Award, NYS All-State Mixed Chorus Alternate
School Activities: Chorus, Theater, Exit 11 Orchestra, Key Club, Honors Society
Activities outside of school: Volunteer coaching at Upwards Basketball, playing the violin and piano
College you plan to attend and major: Cornell University, Computer Science
Career plans: I would like to purse a career where I can work on the ethical issues of artificial intelligence
How has Baldwinsville prepared you for your future: Baldwinsville has provided me with the best teachers I could've hoped for. I have had so many opportunities here that I am extremely grateful for, and I have been able to meet lifelong friends.
 
8) Owen Penhollow 
Honors: National Honors Society, St. Lawrence University Book Award, University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leaders Award
School activities: Marching Band, Pep Band, Jazz Band, Science Olympiad, Baker News, Community-Wide Dialogue, Baldwinsville Theater Arts Program
Activities outside of school: Baldwinsville Community Scholarship Foundation Committee, Youth and Government, District Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, All-County Band and Chorus, Area All-State Band
College you plan to attend and major: University at Buffalo on a pre-law track.
Career plans: Labor Law
How has Baldwinsville prepared you for your future: At Baldwinsville, teacher after teacher has embraced me, encouraged me, and given me the room to create what most interested me and learn what I was most passionate about. I owe so much to the guidance, patience, and hard work of the educators of this district. From my education to my friends to my clubs to even my family, this district has dominated my life and as frightening as it is to leave these walls, I believe the amazing people who dedicate their lives in service of the next generation have prepared me for whatever comes next.
 
9) Erin Anson
Honors: National Honor Society, National Merit Scholarship Letter of Commendation, AP Scholar
School activities: Exit 11
Activities outside of school: Team Lead at Chick-fil-A
College you plan to attend and major: St. John Fisher University. I’ll be majoring in biology on the pre-med track. 
Career plans: I plan to continue my education journey through medical school with the ultimate goal of becoming a pediatric neurologist. 
How has Baldwinsville prepared you for your future: Baldwinsville has introduced me to some incredible people that have inspired me to always strive for success. 
 
10) Julia Quinn
Honors: Frederick Douglass and Susan B Anthony Award from University of Rochester, National Honors Society, AP Scholar, NYSPHAA Scholar Athlete, High Honor Roll
School Activities: Tennis Team, Golf Team, Key Club, Environmental Club, National Honors Society
Activities outside of school: Student intern with Clary's Closet, Volunteering with ARISE at the Farm, Club tennis
College you plan to attend and major: Hamilton College; majoring in psychology
Career Plans: I hope to become a psychologist and provide mental health services to the community. 
How has Baldwinsville prepared you for your future: Baldwinsville has provided me with experiences that have enhanced my understanding of the world and have provided me with relationships and knowledge that will help me in my future. 
 
11) Elijah Bettinger 
Honors: Gary Griffin Memorial Scholarship, National Honors Society, Rotary Club Student of the Month
School Activities: Swim team, Cross Country, Outdoor Track and Field, Environmental Club President, Envirothon
Activities Outside of School: Youth and Government, Youth Representative of the Camp Talooli Volunteer Board of Directors
College you plan to attend and major: SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry, Major in four year Conservation Biology program
Career Plans: I hope to become an Agronomist, focusing on restorative agriculture.
How has Baldwinsville prepared you for your future:  My experiences with Baldwinsville athletics have taught me discipline, confidence, and self respect. I learned how to set achievable goals, and accomplish them.
 
12) Sasha Dailey 
Honors: National Honor Society
School activities: I’m part of the Student Advisory Council, Senior Council and Student Council.
Activities outside of school: I tutor at Syracuse Community Hebrew School, I study at Epstein School of Jewish Studies, teach religious music at Temple Society of Concord, I am part of Silverhawks High School Girls Club Rugby and I take private piano lessons. 
College you plan to attend and major: I plan on attending the University of Vermont as a biological science major with a Spanish minor. I plan on also taking classes as a student part of the Honors College. 
Career plans: After college, I plan on attending medical school and becoming a doctor and part time medical researcher. 
How has Baldwinsville prepared you for your future: Baldwinsville has given me so many opportunities. There truly are so many extra-curricular activities to explore as well as many classes that will prepare you for college. I have enjoyed taking advanced classes and meeting so many staff members who are all so intelligent, and without them, I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am now. Baldwinsville has given me the ability to explore my interests in music and student government, and I am so thankful to have been part of a district that encourages students to become so well-rounded and critical of the world around them.
 
13) Caleb Way
Honors: National Honor Society, New York State Scholar athlete, Team Captain, 
School activities: Baseball, Volleyball, Honor Society, Student Advisory Council, treasurer of FCCLA, founder of Edge Business Competition, Founder of HELP project for volleyball 
Activities outside of school: Baseball
College you plan to attend and major: Texas Christian University to study Finance
Career plans: I hope to become a successful Investment Banker 
How has Baldwinsville prepared you for your future: Baldwinsville has prepared me for my future by providing teachers willing to get you to where you want to be.
