Students in our Summer Filmmaking Camp share final videos: Watch Here!

The 2023 Summer Filmmaking Camp was held from August 7th to August 11th at C.W. Baker High School.

The popular summer camp was limited to 50 students in 6th to 8th grade. Leslie Cartier, Library Media Specialist, film teacher and Baker News advisor, and Justin Ashworth, Library Media Specialist and Ray News advisor, led the camp.

Students learned how to effectively create visual stories. The goal of this week-long camp was also to develop students’ social emotional skills as they learn to positively express their feelings and ideas about the world around them using multimedia.

During camp, students accomplished the following:
  • refined their writing skills while learning the basics of screenwriting
  • engaged with industry standard film equipment
  • learned how to operate their cell phone as a filmmaking tool
  • applied fundamental principles of editing while creating a film

By the end of the workshop, students wrote, directed and edited an original film. Their final cuts are available now by clicking the link below.
