Winter Sports Announcement and Practice/Tryout Schedule

See update on February 1, 2021

January 29, 2021

Governor Cuomo lifted the ban on high-risk winter sports last week pending approval from local health departments. On Thursday, we received guidance from the Onondaga County Health Department for the return of hockey, basketball, wrestling, competitive cheerleading, contact lacrosse and volleyball. Today, the Salt City Athletic Conference (SCAC) voted to move wrestling to the spring season. Section III permitted all leagues the opportunity to make such moves this year.

We have been working around the clock to meet all of the protocols necessary to start winter sports on Monday, February 1st. The sports that will be allowed to play during the winter season are boys and girls basketball, ice hockey and cheerleading. These sports will start Monday pending that we meet all of the county Health Department’s requirements, including approval by our Board of Education. The school board will hold an emergency meeting at 7 a.m. on Monday to approve participation in boys and girls basketball, ice hockey and cheerleading.  In order to move forward we also need the approval of our sport-specific preparedness plans by our District’s medical director. Our medical director will be reviewing the plans and it is our hope he will approve each sport’s plan prior to the conclusion of the school day on Monday.

Below is the practice/tryout schedule for the first three days of the high risk Winter sports season.  If you have any questions about athletics, please refer to the Athletics page on the District website, or contact the Athletic Office directly.

Please remember, if you want to look at a sports team’s schedule at any time, please go to ScheduleGalaxy.com, our online scheduling program.  On the Athletics page, click on the Team Schedules button under the picture of the turf or click on this link: https://www.schedulegalaxy.com/schools/10

Your athlete will need to bring a Covid release form to each practice and/or game.  No form, no participation … period!  This is the same form that must be handed in on days students have in-person instruction.  Here’s the link to the form:  https://www.bville.org/tfiles/folder949/STUDENT%20COVID19%20Health%20Screening%20Questionnaire.pdf

**New for this season – on the first day of practice/tryouts, each athlete must bring with them a completed parental Covid release form.  Athletes will not be able to participate until they hand this form in to their coach.  This form only needs to be filled out once for the season.  The link for the form can be found on the Athletics page at bville.org, or CLICK HERE

As of 3 p.m. Friday, January 29, 2021, out of an abundance of caution the Salt City Athletic Conference (SCAC) voted to move wresting (varsity, junior varsity, and modified) to the Spring 2021 season. The dates of the Spring 2021 season are still to be determined at this time.
