Superintendent DeBarbieri's announcements for September 29, 2023

September 29, 2023

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,

There is a lot of work that goes into getting our schools, facilities and campuses ready for the start of a new school year. The work is extremely important and appreciated, but all too often does not receive the attention it deserves. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Facilities Department for their hard work, dedication and extraordinary attention to detail. Our buildings, campuses and fields looked great for the start of the school year and throughout this month. Monday is School Custodian Appreciation Day and we want to say thank you to all of our custodians and members of our Facilities Department. Thank you for all that you do!

I have a few announcements to share with you today:

  • We will be hosting four Community Cafés this year to bring together students, staff, parents and community members to discuss important topics impacting the school district. Guests will gather in small groups as we share ideas, perspectives and light refreshments. All meetings will be held at C.W. Baker High School. The first Café will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 19th and will explore the topics of health, safety and security. Registration is required. We hope you can join us as we explore questions that matter, build relationships and share our knowledge and ideas to help build, educate and empower our students! Learn more on our website.

  • Congratulations to our Baker’s Dozen, which was announced this morning by Principal Kris Denton. The Baker's Dozen represents the 13 students that have the highest weighted GPA in the Class of 2024. See the list of names on our website. Congratulations, Bees! We are so proud of you for your accomplishments!

  • Modified Winter I sports signups: FamilyID opens this Saturday, September 30th to sign up for modified Winter I sports (boys 7/8/9 basketball and girls 7/8/9 volleyball).  Winter I sports start on Monday, October 30th.

  • Post season play starts next week for our fall varsity sports:

    • Boys Golf sectionals will take place on Wednesday, October 4th. Our boys still have a few more matches left to qualify in.

    • Girls Tennis team sectional quarterfinals will take place at home at 3:30 p.m. on  Monday, October 2nd (opponent TBD). If they win on Monday, the sectional semifinals will take place on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. (opponent and location TBD). If they win on Tuesday, the sectional finals will be on Wednesday at Fayetteville Manlius at 3:30 p.m. (opponent TBD).

  • Good luck to all student-athletes with games this weekend. You can check out our athletic schedule on our website and follow our Athletics Department on Twitter.

  • Our Marching Band will be competing in the band competition at West Genesee. Go Bees!

Please continue to check ParentSquare, your email and our website, for important updates. As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. Enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Joseph M. DeBarbieri
