Superintendent DeBarbieri's announcements for October 6, 2023

October 6, 2023

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,

I hope everyone was able to enjoy the beautiful summer-like weather this week! There is no school for students and district offices are closed on Monday, October 9th due to the observance of Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day. I hope everyone enjoys the three-day weekend!

I have a few announcements to share with you today:

  • On Monday evening, the Board of Education announced the resignation of board member Anthony Germano. Mr. Germano is pursuing the town justice position in the town of Clay. We wish him luck and thank him for his service. His departure leaves a vacancy on the school board and the board is asking for interested community members to submit a letter of interest and resume (or similar document) to our Clerk of the District. For more information, please visit our website.

  • The district is starting the development process for the 2024-2025 budget and we are seeking community input through budget advisory committees. If you’re interested in volunteering, please visit our website for more information.

  • Our Marching Band and Pep Band are in Ohio for an exciting weekend. The Pep Band will be performing live on the front patio of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland at 4 p.m. today. Our Marching Band will be taking part in the Bands of America Competition at the University of Toledo on Saturday. Go Bees!

  • Our Varsity Girls Tennis Team lost in the Sectional Team Finals on Wednesday in a hard fought match against FM. Congratulations on a great team season girls! Next up: Individual Sectional play starts Monday, October 9th. Our Boys Varsity Golfers who qualified for Sectionals played Wednesday. Three of them qualified for States at Seven Oaks Golf Club in the Spring! Our three qualifiers are: Billy Shipman, Owen Frechette and Alden Motala. Great job! Good luck to all student-athletes with games this weekend. You can check out our athletic schedule on our website and follow our Athletics Department on Twitter.

  • Mark your calendars for the first Community Café, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 19th and will explore the topics of health, safety and security. Registration is required. We hope you can join us as we explore questions that matter, build relationships and share our knowledge and ideas to help build, educate and empower our students! Coffee and light refreshments will be served. Learn more on our website.

  • Calendar Reminders: There are four half days scheduled for this month for elementary school (pre-kindergarten to 5th grade) students for parent-teacher conferences. The first one is scheduled for Friday, October 13th. Elementary students will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m.

Please continue to check ParentSquare, your email and our website, for important updates. As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. Enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. Joseph M. DeBarbieri
