Superintendent's announcements for October 20, 2022

October 20, 2023

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,

Earlier this week our district recognized Unity Day as part of National Bullying Prevention Month. By wearing orange on Wednesday, our staff and students sent a message that we want to promote kindness, acceptance and inclusion to everyone in our community in order to prevent bullying. My hope is that the spirit of Unity Day lasts more than 24 hours. Only by treating others with respect and kindness are we able to fulfill our mission to build, educate and empower our students.

As we focus on our commitment to respect and support all members of our community, I would like to continue to offer support to all those impacted by the horrific events surrounding the loss of innocent lives overseas. I recognize that this is an emotional and scary time for all those with personal and cultural ties to the region. Our staff is committed to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. Please reach out to your child’s school if you need support.

I have a few other announcements to share with you today:

  • We held our first Community Café on Thursday evening and we had a great turnout for this inaugural gathering. We will host three more cafés during the school year. Thank you to everyone who participated. The evening was full of great discussions, sharing ideas and creating relationships. I look forward to our next café. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, December 6th. The topic will be on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

  • October is National Principal Month and we’ve been shining a spotlight on our exceptional principals and assistant principals on our social media pages. Check them out. Thank you to our principals and assistant principals for your dedication to the students, your school and our district!

  • Congratulations to our Girls Tennis players who will advance to the state tournament. Ayla Kalfass came in second and Mira Nadzan came in third in singles and the team of Sonia Nadzan and Lainey Nesbitt won the state qualifier doubles championship. Next up is states, which starts on Thursday, October 26th. Go Bees!

  • Our Gymnastics team is competing all day today in Sectionals at Valley Gymnastics in Utica. Our Varsity Field Hockey team advanced to the Sectional semifinal game, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 24th at the Vernon Verona Sherrill High School stadium. Our Boys Soccer team also won last night beating Corcoran to advance to the Sectional semifinals. The Bees will play Utica Proctor at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25th at Fayetteville-Manlius. Our Girls Soccer team will take on Liverpool in the Sectional semifinals at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25th at Chittenango High School.
