Superintendent DeBarbieri's announcements for February 2, 2024

February 2, 2024

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff,

This week marks the beginning of the third marking period and the official second half of the school year. I’m extremely proud of our students for their hard work, dedication and creativity, which is evident in my announcements below!

Report cards from the second marking period are available now in the Parent Portal.

I have a few announcements to share with you today:

Scholastic Art Awards:

Congratulations to our C.W. Baker High School and Durgee Junior High School students who earned CNY Scholastic Art Awards. Thirty-three students earned 62 Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mentions in various categories including photography, sculpture, digital art, mixed media, drawing and painting, and more. Visit our website to see the list of winners and the winning artwork. Go Bees!

Athletics Update:

Congratulations to our Boys and Girls Indoor Track & Field teams for an outstanding showing at the Salt City Athletic Conference Indoor Track Championships on Thursday. Our boys team won the team trophy in the championship and our girls team came in second in the SCAC Metro Division. Great job, Bees!

Sectional action starts this weekend. The Boys Wrestling Class AA Tournament takes place on Saturday at Jamesville DeWitt High School at 9 a.m. The Boys Bowling Team will compete in Sectionals starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday at Strike 'N Spare Lanes located at 1777 Brewerton Road, Syracuse. Electronic ticketing is in effect for both events. Go Bees!

Save the Date:

The Baldwinsville Theater Arts Program will present the senior production of Roald Dahl's "Matilda" the musical in March. The show opens on Thursday, March 7th and runs until Sunday, March 10th. Ticket information is coming soon. Junior Cate Johnson will play Matilda. Visit our website to see the full cast list.

2024 Solar Eclipse:

A total solar eclipse will be visible around 3:20 p.m. on Monday, April 8th. We wanted to let you know for planning purposes that school will be in session for the full day on that day. Many teachers are planning activities to help commemorate this rare event. We’ve provided our educators with some ideas on possible activities. You can view them on our website.

Please continue to check ParentSquare, your email and our website, for important updates. As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. Have a great weekend. Go Bees!

Sincerely,

Dr. Joseph M. DeBarbieri
Superintendent of School
