Superintendent DeBarbieri's announcements for March 15, 2024

March 15, 2025

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Staff,

I had the pleasure of attending the Ray/Durgee Band Concert on Wednesday and the 5th & 6th Grade All-District Band Concert featuring our Pep Band and Katz Pajamas Jazz Band on Thursday. Both performances were outstanding. Great job, Bees! The concerts continue for Music in Our Schools Month next week with band and orchestra and the week after with chorus. Check out our calendar for show details and our YouTube for videos and livestreams. Our student musicians’ hard work and dedication can be seen and heard on stage! Go Bees!

Our Marching Bees will be in action on Saturday at Syracuse’s St. Patrick’s Parade, which starts at noon in downtown Syracuse. This is the band's 10th annual appearance! Have a great time!

I have a few announcements to share with you today:

Calendar Change:

On Wednesday, I sent out a communication on the change in our school calendar regarding April 8, 2024. After careful review of new information regarding the total solar eclipse event on Monday, April 8, 2024, we have determined that the best course of action is to have an early release for all students on Monday, April 8th. Elementary schools will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. Ray Middle School and Baker High School will dismiss at 1:30 p.m. and Durgee Junior High School will dismiss at 1:40 p.m. Read the message on our website.

Unified Bowling:

Our Bees Unified Bowling team had a great time at the culminating event at B’ville Sports Bowl on Tuesday. There were lots of strikes and spares to celebrate. The event featured teams from Homer, Nottingham and Cicero North Syracuse. Check out photos on our Facebook page.

Community Café:

You’re invited to join us for our next Community Café, which will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 25th at C.W. Baker High School in the cafeteria. The topic discussed will be Project Based Learning. The Community Café is an opportunity to bring together students, staff, parents and community members to discuss important topics impacting the school district. Guests will gather in small groups as we share ideas, perspectives and light refreshments. Registration is required. We hope you can join us.

Have a great weekend!

Please continue to check ParentSquare, your email and our website, for important updates. As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

Sincerely,

Dr. Joseph M. DeBarbieri
