B'ville Pitcher Invited to MLB Pipeline League

Baldwinsville pitcher Jason Savacool has accepted an invitation to participate in the inaugural Major League Baseball Prospect Development Pipeline (MLB PDP) League this spring. The MLB PDP League is a joint venture of Major League Baseball and USA Baseball.

Savacool, a junior, is one of 80 top players from the draft-eligible 2020 class around the country to be invited, and he is one of only two players invited from New York. On Wednesday, June 12, Savacool received his official jersey for the MLB PDP from Christopher Campolieta, Director of Athletics.

Savacool will spend three weeks at the IMG Academy, a 500-acre campus with a state-of-the-art baseball stadium and training facilities in Florida. He will work with coaches, instructors, and personnel from Major League Baseball, USA Baseball, and from the college ranks. The PDP League will consist of four teams of 20 players with former major league players Ryan Howard, Derek Jeter, Barry Larkin, and Chipper Jones serving as team captains.

At the conclusion of the PDP League, approximately 40 players will be invited to participate in a high school all-star game in Cleveland that will be a part of the MLB All-Star Weekend festivities. A similar number of players will be invited to additional tryouts for USA Baseball’s 18u team that will compete in the WBSC Baseball World Cup in South Korea in late August/early September.

The MLB PDP will add to Savacool’s busy summer schedule, which includes playing for the Canes National 17u team and competing as a member of the Yankees/Red Sox team at East Coast Pro and the Area Code Games in late July and early August, two of the largest professional scouting showcases in the country.
