Palmer Principal honored with Administrator Award

L. Pearl Palmer Elementary School Principal Alex Ewing will be honored at a ceremony next week with The Genesee Valley Region PTA Administrator Award.

Principal Ewing was surprised Monday afternoon with news of the award by members of Palmer’s PTA, school staff and District administrators.

The Genesee Valley Region PTA Administrator Award is given in recognition of excellence in educational administration. The award is aimed at administrative personnel whose leadership, instructional leadership, resource development, communication, and promotion of the mission and purpose of PTA sets them as models for other administrative leaders.

The Genesee Valley Region PTA is one of sixteen regions of the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers, a branch of the National PTA. The group represents PTAs in Onondaga County and seven other Upstate New York counties.

The group’s administrator award was created to honor educational administrators who serve as models of "best practice.”

Principal Ewing will be presented with the award at the annual PTA Partnership Dinner at 6 p.m. on Monday, November 4. The dinner will be held at Burgundy Basin Inn, which is located in 1361 Marsh Road, Pittsford. Registration is $35 and is open until Oct. 31. Principal Ewing was nominated for his commitment to education, and the children and families at Palmer. Here’s some of what his nominators had to say:
“Whatever you need”. These words are what you might expect from a child’s mother or father. A friend. A respected professor. At Palmer Elementary school, those are the words you hear frequently from Principal Alex Ewing. Since joining Palmer Elementary School in 2017, Mr. Ewing has nurtured the students, teachers, staff, parents and community members fostering a close-knit community. Mr. Ewing daily demonstrates the commitment to education and to the children and families in his school that make him an exemplar administrator, deserving of the Genesee Valley Region PTA Administrator Award.

Mr. Ewing demonstrates exceptional interpersonal skills. He acknowledges each and every person who enters the school by name, adult or child. Mr. Ewing is a leader in all that he does. He is truly a role model for our students, faculty and staff. Mr. Tony Cardamone, Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction K-6 shared, “Alex exhibits the qualities of a leader: focused on the children, instruction, school climate & culture and community relations. He has also become a mentor to our new principals. This demonstrates our district’s pride and recognition of Alex’s talents. We want all our administrators to aspire to be the quality of leader as Alex Ewing.”

Principal Ewing said he was truly speechless to receive such an honor.
