Update on July 25th graduation ceremony

Parents and Members of the Class of 2020:

We hope that you are enjoying the warm summer sunshine, spending quality time with your families, and staying healthy! Our cap and gown pick-up parade, our Kiwanis Club sponsored drive-in movie, and drive-up graduation events, honoring the Class of 2020 were all huge successes, and we thank you for supporting our efforts to provide our Seniors with moments that they will cherish. We have been optimistic that we could hold a second, more traditional graduation for the entire Class of 2020 on July 25th, hoping that guidance from Governor Cuomo, the CDC, and the Onondaga County Executive would change.

As we have seen several states have an increase in Covid-19 cases, the cancellation of the New York State Fair, and continued restrictions from NY State, we are unfortunately placed into a position that does not allow for us to gather the entire Class of 2020 and their families together for a traditional ceremony.

However, we want to honor those graduates who did not attend the June 21st graduation. On Saturday, July 25th at 9AM, students who did not attend the event on 6/21 are being invited to campus to receive their diplomas in a stagewalking ceremony just as their classmates were able to do. These students and families are being contacted individually with details about the ceremony. We will continue to follow the current guidelines and ensure that our community members remain safe while we celebrate those who still need to receive their diplomas.

In addition, we are excited to announce that the C.W. Baker High School PTSA has been working hard to host a celebration event for the Class of 2020 and has developed a plan to safely bring students together for some fun, food, and raffle prize drawings! The PTSA has worked diligently throughout the school year to collect prizes and donations to be awarded to students at the KBR (Keep the Ball Rolling) party, typically held after the Senior Ball. This year, the PTSA will award raffles and provide refreshments for groups of students at this unique event planned for 7/25/20. Read more HERE.

We want to sincerely thank you for your continued support and wish the Class of 2020 and their families all the best as they continue to enjoy a safe and healthy summer. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions and a huge thank you to the entire PTSA and their leadership team for working hard to provide one more memorable experience to honor the Class of 2020.

Gratefully,

Kris H. Denton
