Board of Education Spotlight for January 25, 2021

Durgee Junior High School
The Board of Education and Acting Superintendent Joseph DeBarbieri honored Durgee Junior High School student Kate Rinn for showing courage and bravery to help end the COVID-19 pandemic. Kate Rinn answered the call in December to take part in the Pfizer vaccine trial for children between 12 and 15 years old. Kate said she wanted to help any way she could. We are proud of Kate for her bravery.
Tracy Capone
Ray Middle School
The Board of Education and Acting Superintendent Joseph DeBarbieri honored Tracy Capone, a remote teacher at Ray Middle School, for adapting to the challenges of the pandemic with creativity and enthusiasm. Tracy Capone transitioned to being a 100% remote teacher this year and devoted herself entirely into it. Tracy has been extremely creative in the ways she delivers lab experiences to students providing them with as many authentic experiences as possible. She goes above and beyond meeting with students outside of school hours and helping families get the materials needed for their child to be successful.

Durgee Junior High School
The Board of Education and Acting Superintendent Joseph DeBarbieri honored Head Custodian Jeff Santmyer and his crew at Durgee Junior High School for adapting to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and adjusting to all of the new necessary cleaning procedures while continuing to maintain and improve the building at Durgee Junior High School. Jeff and his team have been an amazing asset to Durgee. Below are just a few of many ways in which they care for the building and staff:
- They sanitize and clean every possible surface under the COVID requirements.
- They change the sign in the front of our building to reflect a positive message for the community.
- They are consistently responsive to emails and requests by administration, teachers, and other staff members.
- They work hard to maintain and update the inside and outside of the building.
- They consistently maintain the cleaning supplies in each classroom.
- They are always working and maintaining a clean and safe environment for staff and students.
