Acting Superintendent's announcements for January 13, 2023

Dear Parents, Guardians and Staff, 

Happy Friday! It’s been another busy and exciting week! As we prepare to kick off the three-day weekend, I have a few quick announcements to share with you: 

Calendar Reminders:
  • There is no school for students or staff on Monday, January 16th for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. District Offices will also be closed. 
  • The Marking Period ends on Friday, January 27th.
  • Report cards will be available in the parent portal on Friday, February 3rd.
Spelling Bee:

I am proud to announce that three of our students will advance to the oral round of The Post-Standard | syracuse.com regional Spelling Bee.
Congrats to the following students: 
  • Liam Becker, fourth grade, Reynolds Elementary School
  • Walid Nassar, sixth grade, Ray Middle School
  • Lillian Piatkowski, fifth grade, Van Buren Elementary School
The students competed in the online regional written round to qualify for the local oral final round. They will compete in The Post-Standard | syracuse.com regional Spelling Bee at 10 a.m. Feb. 4 at the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.

2023 CNY Scholastic Art Awards:
C.W. Baker High School and Durgee Junior High School students earned 2023 CNY Scholastic Art Awards. Combined the students earned 60 Gold Key, Silver Key and Honorable Mentions in the Photography, Digital Art, Mixed Media, Ceramics & Glass, Film & Animation, Drawing & Illustration, and Painting. Check out photos of the winning artwork and list of the winner’s names on our website. Great job, Bees!
