Superintendent DeBarbieri's announcements for May 23, 2024

May 23, 2024

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Staff,

Thank you to our voters for passing our 2024-2025 general budget. We appreciate everyone who came out and voted. Proposition III - the purchase of one zero emission student transport vehicle - failed 716 to 1423. The Legislature's electric school bus mandate requires new school bus purchases to be zero emission by 2027 and all school buses in operation to be electric by 2035. The results of this vote helps us gauge where our community stands on the issues surrounding this mandate. This information will be provided to our state officials. We appreciate everyone who took the time to vote and for those who provided feedback in our exit poll. I also want to take this opportunity to thank our Facilities Department and staff members who did an excellent job in creating a nice and efficient place to vote. Also, a huge thank you goes out to our dedicated volunteers who worked the polls on Tuesday! Go Bees!

As a reminder, we have no school for all students tomorrow - Friday, May 24th. There is no school for all students and district offices are closed on Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day. This Memorial Day weekend let us remember and honor all of our heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

I have a few announcements to share with you today:

Marching Bees:

Our Marching Bees will perform in three Memorial Day parades. The Bees will make their first-ever appearance at the Camillus Memorial Day Parade at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 27th in the village of Camillus. The Jordan Memorial Day Parade of Bands kicks off at about 3 p.m. on Monday, May 27th and the Baldwinsville Memorial Day Parade will start at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 30th. Come out and support our Bees!

Mock DWI:

C.W. Baker High School will hold a mock DWI experience for seniors at about 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 30th. The event will be held in the Baker High School back bus loop. The demonstration will include police, fire, EMS and funeral services. We don’t want to alarm any families or community members. This experience is intended to educate and warn students of the dangers of driving while impaired, especially ahead of the Senior Ball, which will be held on Saturday, June 1st at the Oncenter.

Special Champions:

The Special Champions event was held on Monday. There was plenty of sunshine and countless smiles! It was an honor to cheer on our athletes and they had a great time. Thank you to our staff who made the event a success, and thank you to the families, students and community members who came out to cheer on our champions. Check out our Facebook page to see photos.
